- John Lane studied at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg South Africa for a B.A. legal degree.
- He subsequently also completed management and marketing studies through the Wits Business School.
- His first formal employment was in the position of Marketing Executive of Teljoy Television, heading up their newly formed Sponsorship division.
- 5 years later he became the Marketing Executive of MNet Television: Supersport, the South African Pay per View private television channel.
- John then worked on the Olympic Games and South Africa’s historic re-entry to international sport in his capacity as Marketing/Sponsorship Manager for Grinaker Sport, official consultants to the National Olympic Committee of South Africa.
- Upon his return from the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992, John then founded his own business, Worldwide Sports Marketing & Advertising (Pty) Ltd, based in Johannesburg, where he is currently Managing Director and President for Life !!!
- Worldwide Sports specializes predominantly in football advertising and marketing strategies and has for many years been closely associated with the South African Football Association and the South African Premier Soccer League.
- One of his most landmark projects was his pivotal involvement in submitting a formal strategic proposal to the South African Football Association (SAFA) in 1993 to bid for the FIFA 2006 Football World Cup, being part of the initial 2006 and successful 2010 Bid Delegation for South Africa and working continuously up to and including the 2010 Football World Cup to be hosted by South Africa.
- He was also responsible for securing the hosting from Dubai to Johannesburg, and being in global partnership with, SOCCEREX – the leading annual global football conference and exhibition – in South Africa for 2007, 2008 and 2009.
- He currently works as an International Sports Marketing Consultant with a broad and diverse base of blue-chip South African clients.
- On behalf of Royal Bafokeng Holdings, he markets, both locally and internationally, the Bafokeng community based near Sun City in the Pilanesberg-Rustenburg area. Having been instrumental in helping form Bafokeng Sports Holdings, he provides and helps manage strategies for developing grassroots sport as well as global events for the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Phokeng, which stadium will be one of the official host venues for the 2010 Football World Cup.
